The weight of the soul is said to be 21g. Kotani's 21g series features a translucent layer with missing strokes that overlaps various paintings, ranging from abstract to concrete. This translucent membrane may connect life and death. In Landscape-21g, the base is a photograph taken with a mobile phone. On top of this ordinary snapshot, a translucent layer, also with missing strokes, is printed using silk screen. This layer acts as a bridge between the ordinary and the extraordinary. With fifteen types of snapshots and five types of layers, a total of 75 unique works have been created through their combinations. There is no inherent meaning in these combinations; they are determined automatically, which further emphasizes the concepts embedded in this collection. Each parallel world formed by the layers reveals the extraordinary within.
