The Esquisse Series features nine carefully curated pieces based on a drawing of the same name created by Kohei Nawa around 2000 during his time in the graduate program at Kyoto City University of Arts. These works are produced as silk screen prints.
Instead of simply replicating the original image, the pieces focus on the texture and color of the ink, utilizing pigments commonly found in red ink. Historically, red has served as a universal pigment, even used for dyeing the cloth that wraps buried bodies, symbolizing a connection between this world and the next. As layers of prints are added, the colors become more refined and vibrant. The prints are slightly larger than the original drawings, giving them a unique appeal.
