Height: 47, Width: 36 cm
The Esquisse Series features nine carefully curated works derived from a drawing of the same name created by Kohei Nawa around 2000 during his time in the graduate program at Kyoto City University of Arts. These pieces are produced as silk screen prints.
Instead of simply replicating the original image, the works focus on the texture and color of the ink, using pigments traditionally associated with red ink. Red has long been regarded as a universal pigment, even used for dyeing the cloth that wraps buried bodies, symbolizing a connection between this world and the next. As layers of ink are applied, the colors become more structured and rich. The prints are slightly larger than the original drawings, giving them a distinct charm that sets them apart.
